Seminary of the Sacred Heart
The Seminary of the Sacred Heart is a theological institution of the Old Catholic Union of the West, providing accessible theological education for ordained and lay ministry. Our programs are rooted in practical theology and pastoral care, bringing academic study into conversation with the lived work of ministry and the life of the Church.
The Seminary offers undergraduate and graduate degrees in theological studies, together with specialized programs in ministerial and Franciscan formation. While grounded in the Old Catholic tradition, our programs welcome students from other Christian traditions who seek thoughtful, academically responsible, and practically oriented theological education.
The Seminary of the Sacred Heart is a religiously exempt institution of higher learning, offering degrees in theological subjects.
Our History
The Seminary of the Sacred Heart grew from the need for sound and accessible theological formation for clergy and others preparing for ministry. The Seminary began accepting internal students in 2019, providing theological education and ministerial formation within our own church.
In 2025, the Seminary expanded its programs to students from other denominations and Christian traditions. This expansion also included the development of an academic program in Franciscan Studies, providing structured theological and spiritual formation for Old Catholic Franciscans within our church and beyond.
Today, the Seminary continues that work through programs combining theological study, pastoral formation, and practical preparation for ministry. Our size and hybrid educational model allow students to undertake much of their academic work independently while maintaining direct relationships with clergy, instructors, and the Seminary community.
